Rounding Off To Nearest 1000

Rounding off To Nearest 1000:

Rounding means making a number simpler but keeping its value close to what it was. The result is less accurate, but easier to use.

When we round off a number to the nearest thousands, we look at the digit in the hundreds place.

If the digit in the hundreds place is 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 we round off the number to the same thousand.

If the digit in the hundreds place is 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 we round off the number to the next thousand.

Round off the numbers to the nearest 1000.:

For Example: Round 1686 to the nearest 1000.

Solution:

As the digit at the hundreds place is 6, which is greater than 5, Let us round off to the next thousand.

1686 rounded to the nearest thousand is 2000.
